Kempes: "It's lovely to be able to celebrate 100 years of Valencia CF"

The club legend will be in Valencia for the Centenary celebrations

Mario Alberto Kempes is amongst the most famous Valencia CF legends of all time, and he will be back at Mestalla for the special events the club have prepared for the club's Centenary celebrations.

“Everybody who has ever worn the Valencia CF shirt has written a few lines in the club history book," said the Argentine in an interview with VCF Media Radio. "From the most veteran players to the youngest talents, we are all excited about the Centenary. After having experienced beautiful moments with the club, it's lovely to be able to celebrate 100 years of Valencia CF."

Kempes will be alongside many of his former teammates and fellow ex-players on March 18th, the day of the Centenary. He will take part in several acts, as well as being part of the Legends Game at Mestalla on Sunday, March 24th at 6pm.

Some in attendance may be too young to remember Kempes in action, but stories from their elders have helped them to become familiar with a player who was twice LaLiga's top scorer, lifted the Copa del Rey, European Cup Winners Cup and European Supercup, and was part of Argentina's World Cup winning side of 1978.

"'Valencianismo' is passed down by word of mouth, from parents to children. Younger fans remember you because they have been told about you, and that is the beautiful thing," he reflected.

“It's the club's birthday. We have all participated by representing Valencia CF. We want it to be a memorable celebration, and that the club continues for another 100 years. I have a lot of confidence for the Copa del Rey final as well. The three finals that I played in for Valencia CF, we won. Finals have to be won; it doesn't matter how you play. VCF have everything in place to lift the cup again. They know how to play against big sides."
